What is copyright?
Copyright is a legal concept that provides exclusive rights to creators for their original works of authorship, such as literary, dramatic, musical, artistic, and certain other intellectual works.
Protecting your copyright
Proving that you are the original creator of a work can be challenging and can come down to"your word against theirs." Without the proper and necessary protection, your work could end up generating money for someone else. That's why we're introducing UMW Protect to a new feature we've added to UMW Recordings, Inc that makes it easy to register your copyright.
How does it work?
As soon as you upload your files to our platform, an indisputable record is created. Blockchain technology establishes a date and time record of your upload and ensures that your record cannot be altered or tampered with.
You will receive the copyright registration certificate immediately in your email, you can download it in PDF format, which is a digital proof according to copyright law, designs, among others.
Do you have questions about this feature? We have answers!

Tips and answers from the UMW Recordings, Inc. team.
Copyright is an automatic right under international law in 179 countries. However, if your content is used without your permission, you will need to prove that you are the original creator of that work.
Recording your work and ownership data on the blockchain with UMW Recordings, Inc will generate a digital certificate with a unique smart contract number (hash), unique QR code, and date stamp. This is a digital proof under the Copyright Law.You should own the rights to the design and every image or visual element it contains. The design information should be consistent with all the information entered in the metadata of the release.
The File Unique ID with the information of the participants and the title of the work is stored and archived with a time stamp * in a large decentralized and immutable computer network called Blockchain.
For your privacy, UMW Recordings, Inc does not store the file you used to generate the FUID. Without the original file used for registration you will not be able to prove your authorship later, so we recommend the following:
1) Save it to a hardware storage.
2) Save it to at least 2 clouds, for example: OneDrive, Mega, Google Drive or any cloud of your choice.
Timestamp
A temporary stamp, also known as a timestamp, is a sequence of characters that denote the time and date (or one of them) in which a certain event occurred.
This information is usually presented in a consistent format, allowing for easy comparison between two different records and tracking of progress over time; the practice of recording timestamps consistently across current data is called timestamping.
Flags are generally used in event tracking; each event is assigned a timestamp.
The most important legal reference to copyright is contained in article 27.2 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of 1948.
This establishes:
Every person has the right to the protection of the moral and material interests that correspond to him by reason of the scientific, literary or artistic productions of which he is the author.
However, the principles on which international copyright protection is based are much older. These were first established in the Berne Convention of 1886, which still forms the cornerstone of a comprehensive framework of international law today.
The Bern Convention
Under the auspices of UNESCO, this convention was created to establish a system of copyright protection for all nations of the world, capable of guaranteeing respect for the rights of the individual and promoting the development of literature, science and the arts. Its best known result is the famous symbol ©, which means that a work is protected in its country and therefore in all countries that have signed the Copyright Convention. In addition, this convention establishes the rules for effective and adequate protection of copyright, such as the basic rights that guarantee the economic interests of authors and the conditions of protection. The full text of the convention is available on the UNESCO website in three languages.
The Bern Convention
The basic principles that govern copyright protection at the international level were established in the Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works. Currently signed by 163 countries, the Berne Convention establishes standards such as the"national treatment" standard which means that, in all countries, foreign authors benefit from the same rights as national authors.
Rome Convention
The Rome Convention extended copyright protection to neighboring rights: performers enjoy rights to their performances, phonogram producers to their recordings, and radio and television organizations to their programmes. The protection provided by this convention varies depending on whether it is provided to performers or producers of phonograms and broadcasting organizations. For the former, protection includes the possibility of preventing certain uses of their performances without their prior consent and subject to certain conditions, while the latter benefit from the exclusive right to authorize or prohibit. The Beijing Treaty
The Beijing Treaty
on Audiovisual Performances Refers to the Copyright of Performers in Audiovisual Performances, which was adopted on June 26, 2012 by the Diplomatic Conference on the Protection of Fixation of Audiovisual Performances of the World Intellectual Property Organization in Beijing. The Treaty aims to promote the moral and economic rights of performers. This treaty has been signed by 76 countries and has been ratified by Botswana, China, Japan, Slovakia, Syria and the United Arab Emirates. The treaty will not enter into force until it has been ratified by at least 30 eligible parties.
TRIPS AgreementIn
order to harmonize international trade hand in hand with adequate and effective protection of intellectual property rights, the agreement on the Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights was created to guarantee standards and adequate principles regarding the availability, extent and use of trade-related intellectual property rights.
The agreement also establishes the means to enforce such rights. You can consult a summary of the TRIPS agreements on the website of the World Trade Organization.
World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Copyright Treaty (WCT)The WIPO Copyright Treaty (WCT) and the WIPO Performances and Phonograms Treaty (WPPT) were developed in 1996 in order to adapt the protection of authors' rights to the challenges posed by the emergence of the digital world..
The WCT, intended to usher copyright law into the digital age, entered into force on March 6, 2002. The WPPT, relating to performances and phonograms, entered into force on May 20, 2002.
The"File Unique Identifier" (FUID) is an irreversible code * and represents each of your digital files. Even if they slightly modify the digital file, the FUID changes completely.
All creations have a right, because they exist (and because they are creative). They are the works of the mind, creativity, even if sometimes they are more concrete (a model, a sculpture, a post card, a piece of music...). That is intellectual property. Everything points to that first right.
