Can I use UMW Song Assets if I already have a publisher or PRO registration?

Yes, depending on your current setup. Existing registrations do not automatically prevent publishing administration, but they do require review so the rights flow is handled correctly.

ISWC (International Standard Musical Work Code) is a unique identifier for musical works.

What do I need to start?

You generally need accurate song titles, writer information, ownership splits, PRO status, catalog details, and confirmation that you control or are authorized to manage the relevant rights.

What percentage does UMW take?

90% of net publishing royalties go to the rights holder, 10% is retained by UMW as the administration fee.

Does UMW take ownership of my songs?

That should only happen if a separate written agreement expressly states it. As presented publicly, the publishing page is positioned as administration and royalty support rather than ownership transfer.

Does UMW handle sync licensing?

UMW coverage for audiovisual licensing/synchronization includes platforms like Netflix, Prime Video, YouTubeTV, HBO Max, Apple TV, and Disney+.

What types of royalties does UMW collect?

Performance royalties from radio, TV, streaming, and live venues. Mechanical royalties from reproductions and downloads. Sync royalties from TV, film, and advertising placements. YouTube/UGC royalties from user-generated content.

How long does the contract last?

The initial term of the Publishing Services Agreement is one (1) year from the effective date. The Agreement will automatically renew for successive one-year periods unless either party provides written notice of non-renewal at least thirty (30) days before the end of the then-current term.

When are royalties paid?

Publishing income does not always move at the same speed as DSP master royalties. Payment timing depends on when royalties are received from PROs and other collection sources.

UMW Song Assets supports eligible work and repertoire registrations with applicable publishing, collection and rights-management systems. These registrations can strengthen metadata, ownership records and royalty matching.

Publishing Royalty

UMW Song Assets helps organize work registrations, royalty collection data, publishing statements and eligible payout information for songwriters and rights holders.

Publishing Payouts (90%)

You keep 90% of the net publishing royalties collected through UMW Song Assets. UMW retains 10% as a publishing administration fee. This applies to publishing/composition royalties and is separate from distribution/master recording royalties.

Publishing Royalty Payouts

Access collected publishing royalties through secure payout options, subject to reporting cycles, minimum payout thresholds, compliance checks and the Publishing Services Agreement.

Publishing Administration Only

You retain ownership of your compositions, recordings, and rights. UMW Song Assets provides publishing administration and royalty collection support; it does not transfer ownership of your music. The 90% publishing payout refers to collected net publishing royalties, not ownership.

Verified Song Registrations

Your works are reviewed and registered with accurate metadata to improve identification across databases, increase royalty matching, and support stronger publishing income collection.

Global Rights & Collection Network

UMW Song Assets administers eligible publishing rights through applicable societies, mechanical agencies, collection organizations, subpublishers and authorized rights-management routes according to each client's mandate, repertoire, territory and right type.
